BEFORE DEPARTURE

What to Do Before Leaving

Tips and Tricks for a Peaceful Departure

Your trip is approaching! The excitement is growing, and you’re likely worried about forgetting something. From packing your suitcases to preparing for your absence, travel departures require very precise organization.

What to Do at Home

The goal is to “shut down” your house… Unplug electrical appliances, turn off the water, and defrost your refrigerator. Don’t forget to do a thorough cleaning and take out all the trash to avoid attracting unwanted pests. And most importantly, don’t forget your plants: give them a good watering before you leave, and if you’re going away for a long time, find someone who can water them during your absence.

Security Measures

It’s always best to leave a spare key with a trusted friend. They can drop by occasionally to pick up your mail and check if everything is in order. Make sure to lock all doors and close your windows.
And the shutters…?
Opinions vary on this. Closed shutters keep the house warm in winter and provide protection. However, some people say this can attract burglars. Solution: a good friend who comes by every evening to close the shutters… hard to find? Then don’t forget to check your insurance policy: in case of prolonged absence, do your shutters need to be closed for you to be covered?

Your Identity

It is recommended to take with you:

– A photocopy of your ID card or passport; emailing it to yourself is also a good solution, as it can be printed as needed and is safe from theft.
– The phone number of your bank and the international assistance number for your credit card.
– A card with your blood type.
– A medical record indicating your intolerances, allergies, contact lens use, etc.
– A list of emergency numbers to contact in case of a problem.

Don’t Forget

Commonly forgotten items:

– The charger for your… camera, phone, laptop, etc.
– Sunscreen
– Swimsuit, sunglasses, and hat
– Driver’s license
– Your personal first aid kit
– Mosquito repellent spray
– A light jacket and waterproof clothing, just in case… you never know.

But Most Importantly…

Leave behind everything that isn’t necessary: stress, work, problems… it’s so good to forget them, so why bring them along?!?!
